Mi Music is a multimedia application developed by Xiaomi MIUI. As the name suggests, this is a music player designed to let users play local audio files. The app is free to download and use and supports more than 25 audio formats.

More than playing your local music, Mi Music also gives access to a large catalog of online songs as a service, like Spotify. Like the online music app, it provides big hits and online radio stations of all kinds. It even offers live streaming and on-demand radio. Note, however, that it requires a Xiaomi device to work. 

What does the app offer?

Smartphone models all come with their own audio playing ecosystem, and Xiaomi is not an exception. Its default music player, Mi Music, brings a few interesting features and functions that other native audio apps do not have. As mentioned, it supports more than 25 audio formats. With this, you can play any music file you have stored on your local storage. Even better, you can play videos too.

However, what makes it different from the rest of the audio players is that it works as an online music streaming platform. It lets you listen to thousands of music from popular artists. Like Spotify, you can create playlists of your favorite songs.  Moreover, the service recommends music based on your algorithm. Of course, you can also access online radio stations, live streaming, and on-demand radio tailored to your taste.

However, as this is a default music player for Xiaomi, the app requires a Xiaomi device. Also, the minimum operating system requirement is Android 5.0. However, more than the brand restriction, users will be disappointed to know that the app has quite a problematic user interface. The app also skips songs at random. Finally, as the app is free, it has a lot of ads between the songs.

Should you use it?

As a default music player, Mi Music is an app that provides more than usual audio apps offers. It does not only play your local music, but it also works as an online music streaming platform. With this, you don't have to download another service. However, it is not the best music app. It has a lot of shortcomings, which can be a deal-breaker for some users.
